FAQ

Questions we hear a lot

Everything you need to know about KinWise. Still have a question? Email us at hello@kinwisdom.com.

Will it work for us?

Will our family actually stick with it?

KinWise is designed for real families, not perfect ones. Some members answer every question. Some answer one a month. Some answer one question all year — and that one answer is worth the whole subscription. The archive grows at whatever pace your family shows up, and there's no pressure to do more. Most families find that the questions themselves do the work: when grandpa sees a question about his first job, he replies. You don't have to manage anyone.

Is this really simple enough for every generation?

Yes — and this is the thing we're most proud of. A family member gets a text or email. They tap the link. They share their story — writing, voice, video, or photo. No app to download, no account to create, no password to remember. Every generation succeeds because there's nothing to learn.

What if some family members just don't participate?

That's normal and fine. Even one voice memo from your dad about something he's never talked about is worth years of subscription. The people who do show up tend to go deep — and the archive they leave behind matters regardless of how many people contribute. You're not building participation rates. You're building a record of whoever shows up.

What if some family members don't have a smartphone?

They can still participate. Questions arrive by text with a link — tapping it opens the response page in any mobile browser. Members who want the full experience (browsing the archive, searching stories) can download the app, but it's never required.

I'm not a "family organizer" type. Can I still do this?

Yes. Setup takes about five minutes: you create your family, enter phone numbers, and the system takes over. Questions go out automatically. You don't have to write prompts, manage a schedule, or chase anyone. The app runs itself. Plenty of KinWise families are set up by people who explicitly said they weren't organized — and they told us it was the easiest thing they'd ever done for their family.

Getting started

Does anyone need to download an app?

No. Everyone gets a text or email with a link. They tap it and share their story — write, record audio, record video, or send a photo. No app, no account, no password. The app is there for those who want it, but it’s never required.

How long does setup take?

About five minutes. You create an account, name your family archive, and invite your first members. The system handles everything else — questions go out automatically from there.

Who is the "Family Historian"?

That's you — the person who creates the family archive and invites everyone else. You manage the family profile, approve questions, and invite members. Everyone else just answers.

How do the 30 free days work?

Your 30 free days start the moment you enter your card at checkout. Your card is saved but not charged for 30 days. If you don't love it, cancel before day 30 and you're never charged.

Family members

How many family members can join?

Unlimited. One flat price covers your entire family — grandparents, cousins, aunts, the people you only see at reunions. No per-person fees, ever.

Do all members need to pay?

No. Only the Family Historian pays. Every member they invite joins at no cost. They never see a payment page.

What if a family member never downloads the app?

That's fine — and expected. They can participate entirely through the link in their text or email. They tap it, share their story, and it goes straight into the family archive. No app, no login, no friction.

Can I invite members from multiple branches of the family?

Yes. There's no limit to who you invite. Many families use KinWise to connect grandparents with grandchildren across different households, siblings in different cities, and extended family they see only at reunions.

The questions

How are questions chosen?

KinWise draws from a library of questions written for real families — covering life stories, values, memories, and the everyday moments people forget to ask about. Questions are selected based on who is in your family, what life stages are represented, and the topics your family cares about. You can also add your own questions manually.

How often do questions go out?

1–2 times per week by default. You can adjust this in your family settings.

What if a question feels wrong for our family?

You can skip or delete any question in your question queue before it goes out. You can also tell KinWise which topics to emphasize or avoid in your family profile.

What if nobody answers a question?

Nobody gets shamed or chased. Some questions land, some don't. The ones that do land often produce answers worth keeping forever. You're building an archive, not grading homework.

Privacy & data

Is our archive private?

Yes. Your archive is only visible to the family members you invite. We don't sell data, we don't show ads, and we don't use your family's stories to train AI.

What happens to our data if we cancel?

You can download your entire archive at any time — every video, every voice memo, every transcript, in a ZIP file. Your stories belong to your family, not us. We'll never hold your archive hostage.

Where is our data stored?

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (PostgreSQL), a SOC 2 compliant platform. Media files are stored in private cloud storage. We never share your family data with third parties.

Can I delete a response?

Yes. Any member can delete their own responses. The Family Historian can delete any response in the archive. Deleted responses are permanently removed.

Pricing & billing

What does KinWise cost?

$99/year for your whole family — unlimited members. Gift subscriptions are $99 (1 year) or $179 (2 years).

Why not charge per person?

Because family stories aren't lived alone. The same Sunday dinner, the same road trip, the same front porch — everyone remembers it differently. That's what makes a family archive rich. One person's account is a memoir. The whole family's is a living history. Charging per person would mean most families only hear from one voice — and that's exactly what we're trying to fix. And when it's time to make a book, you choose: Grandpa Jake's stories on their own, Aunt Ruth's memoir, or the whole family's answers to the same question side by side. One archive, as many books as you want.

Can I give KinWise as a gift?

Yes. Visit kinwisdom.com/gift. You pay, they get a claim link and set up their own family archive. They never need a credit card.

How is this different from StoryWorth?

StoryWorth asks one person to document their life — it ends in a book. KinWise asks the whole family. Grandparents, parents, your adult kids, cousins — everyone gets the question, everyone answers. The archive is your family in conversation, not one person's memoir. And no one needs to download an app to participate.
